What is Xero?

The accounting package a large share of UK small businesses and their accountants already run. The AI does bank reconciliation — matching payments to invoices and learning your corrections — which is the single most tedious recurring job in a small company's finances.

The AI here is unglamorous and genuinely valuable. Bank reconciliation is pattern matching over a few hundred rows, and the software gets better at your particular patterns each month you correct it.

Making Tax Digital is the reason most UK businesses end up on something like this regardless. Once VAT records have to be kept digitally and filed through compatible software, the spreadsheet stops being an option.

What does Xero cost in the UK?

From £3 per month.

What to watch on the price

We are not quoting an entry price. Xero UK runs heavy time-limited promotions and the headline figure on the page is frequently a discounted rate that expires, so any number we published would mislead within weeks. The link goes to the live UK pricing page. An earlier automated read captured £3, which is a promotional rate, not a standing one.

Does Xero train AI models on your data?

Vendor does not publish it

Read Xero's UK security page on 30 August 2026. It documents ISO 27001, SOC 2 and PCI DSS compliance and encryption in transit and at rest, but says nothing about whether customer data trains AI models. For a tool holding your full financial records that is a gap worth raising with them directly.

The Torus verdict on Xero

The default for UK small business accounting for good reasons, and MTD support is the practical one. Ask your accountant first — the tool they already use will save you more than any feature comparison.

What are the alternatives to Xero?
