What is Fathom?
Joins Zoom, Google Meet and Teams calls, records them, and produces a summary with action items within about a minute of the call ending. The free tier is unusually generous: unlimited recordings and summaries, which is more than most competitors give away.
Fathom sits in the meeting-recorder category alongside Otter, and the difference that matters for a small UK business is the free tier: unlimited recordings and AI summaries for a single user, where most competitors cap you by minutes.
The paid tiers are priced per user per month in US dollars, with a two user minimum, so the real entry price for a team is double the headline.
What does Fathom cost in the UK?
From $19 per user per month.
What the free tier actually gets you
Unlimited recordings, summaries and integrations, for one user. Genuinely usable rather than a trial.
What to watch on the price
Priced in US dollars. Expect an exchange rate and possibly a card foreign transaction fee each month.
Does Fathom train AI models on your data?
Opt out
Fathom states: "Based on how you configure your account settings, we may use and create de-identified data generated from Meeting Content Information to improve our Service by training, improving, and customizing our in-house artificial intelligence models." So training happens unless you change a setting, and the data is de-identified first. The policy does not say which way that setting defaults — open your account settings rather than assuming. What do people use Fathom for?
- Stop taking notes in client calls and still have a record
- Send an agreed action list within minutes of a call ending
- Search back through what a customer actually said months later
What does Fathom connect to?
- Zoom
- Google Meet
- Microsoft Teams
- HubSpot
- Salesforce
- Slack
Where does Fathom fall short?
- Team plans have a two user minimum, so a solo user pays for two seats to get team features
- No published UK data residency option
- Summary quality drops on calls with heavy crosstalk or strong regional accents
Who is Fathom for?
A good fit for
- Sole traders
- Sales teams under 10
- Anyone in back-to-back calls
Not for
- Client calls, until you have the data answers in writing — the vendor publishes no plain answer on training
- Solo users wanting team features, which carry a two-seat minimum
The Torus verdict on Fathom
The free tier is the best in this category and worth using on internal calls today. Before you put it on client calls, get the data answers in writing.
